# MJX Payroll — payroll software for India

MJX Payroll works out salaries and issues payslips every month. In Pathshala you write down what each person is paid once, open a pay run for the month, approve it, and every person can open their own payslip — on the web or in the MJX People app.

It is built for offices, shops, schools and coaching centres in India that run payroll on a spreadsheet today.

## Who uses MJX Payroll?

| Who | What they see |
|---|---|
| **Owner** | Everything: salaries of every person (including admins), pay runs, approvals, tax, filing, Form 16. Only the owner can reset a person's tax-regime choice. |
| **Admin** | The payroll screens. An admin cannot see or change what an owner or another admin is paid. |
| **Staff with a payroll permission** | Only the screens their permission opens — for example an accountant with **Payroll Reports** can read the register and download files. See [roles and managers](people/roles-and-managers). |
| **Every employee** | **My payslips** and **My income tax** — their own payslips and their own tax. See [the HR portal for employees](people/hr-portal-for-employees). |

## Where is Payroll in the menu?

The **Payroll** screen opens with a strip of links in four groups:

Employees who are not an owner or admin find **My payslips** under their name at the top right instead.

## Plans

Every new account starts with a 14-day free trial of every feature. After it you stay on Forever Free or pick a plan. Paid plans are priced **per employee per month, with a minimum of 5 employees**. See [Pricing](~/pricing) for the current prices.

> Absent days from the staff attendance register can also come off pay as loss of pay. That needs **MJX Attendance Pro**, not a Payroll plan. See [office attendance](people/office-attendance).

A locked feature is shown with a 🔒 and a short line saying which plan it comes with. You can still open the screen and read what it does. Upgrade from **Settings › Billing › Subscription & billing**.

## Web and app

- **Web** (pathshala.mjxtechnologies.com): everything — setting salaries, pay runs, tax, filing.

### Add your people
Add each employee on the **People** screen. See [employees](people/employees).

## Questions people ask

### What is MJX Payroll?

MJX Payroll is the payroll product in Pathshala. You set each person's salary once, run the month, and the payslips are worked out and issued. Each person downloads their own from My payslips.

### Does MJX Payroll need MJX People (HR)?

Yes, and it comes with it. A salary is paid to a person whose record and leave live in MJX HR, so buying Payroll includes it.

### Does MJX Payroll pay the salaries from my bank?

No. Pathshala does not move money. It gives you a bank-transfer sheet to upload to your bank, and you then record the payment on the pay run.

### Is there a free plan?

Yes. Forever Free covers salary structures and monthly payslips for up to 5 employees. Paid plans are priced per employee, with a minimum of 5 employees.

### Does it file PF, ESI or TDS returns for me?

It makes the exact files the government portals accept (PF ECR, ESIC sheet, PT figures, Form 24Q data). You upload them yourself, because the portals need your own login, captcha or digital signature.
